Cultivating the Voice of Courage & Inner Strength

Listening is the beginning of everything. If we look around us and listen with our hearts then deep within we know that life is indeed a miracle. How can it not be? Where is nature coming from? Have you ever thought about your body and who made it? Why does the heart look like it looks like? Who designed the shape of it? We put a seed into the soil and by the means of a miracle rain and sun is bringing forth the most incredible flower. On top of it this flower has a scent and a color. How can this not be a miracle?

The intention of my journey in life became very clear pretty early to me. I wanted to find out what life is all about. I had to go through the depth and darkness of self discovery and I do not regret one step. Eventually I reached a sense of connection within myself and since then I am working with people. I love working with the human voice whether in a vocal and musical way and in the context of personal growth, healing and transformation.

It gives me great joy to witness people change when they start to discover the potency and beauty of their voices and their lives. When I hear people say they are able to create a new story about themselves or even better no story at all anymore, that is when my heart starts to shine.

I am here to introduce you to 2 wonderful modalities that I created for working with people. Both combine researched based sound and voice exercises, traditional Indian vocal exercises and therapeutic work within the field of personal development and transpersonal psychology.

I am also passionate about bringing the therapeutic forces of sound and music into the medical institutions as a remedy for relief whether we are ill or at the end of life. And there is something really special to support people to find their voices again after severe injuries or incidences.

What is devotional music?

If music creates a space where my heart is touched and where my thoughts disappear I get a taste of devotion. I could also say I am entering a non ordinary state or transpersonal state of consciousness. I do not have a religious background yet I feel devotion. Maybe it is my devotion to honor this life with all its aspects as a physical and spiritual experience in the same time. It is also a devotion to honor the time I have been given, the time I have been gifted to develop my consciousness. All of this is like music, devotional melody to me.

As music can be explained very differently by people so can devotion. I resonate with the music which lifts me into different states of being and I feel the devotion for these states. So for me devotional music is sound which carries me beyond this reality and also brings me back safely.

Some feel devotion for God and I feel devotion for music as a vehicle to reach that place I call the divine. That place is like coming home. I relax, breathe, restore and continue my path.

What is the Medicine of Your Voice?

The Medicine of Your Voice is a transformational voice healing process. The method that has its roots in the Classical Indian Vocal Style called Dhrupad. I transformed some of the basic vocal exercises and developed new ones based on my personal experiences creating well being for my self. The Medicine of Your Voice is a step by step program for people who like to discover their voices and music, deepen their practice and musical skills and eventually learn how to guide others through the journey of voice, music and life. Through the experience of opening the voice we reconnect to the mystery of the heart. We learn to notice contractied feelings within our bodies and emotions and to transform them into expansion. We are practicing to be with our own truth and voice in all areas of our life. I found that the awareness that comes with this carries the medicine needed to be able to live a conscious live in surrender to the unknown, receiving and giving back.

Bio Bettina Maureenji

I am an internationally certified voice and music healing facilitator, meditative musician, song writer, intuitive soul teacher, mystic and poet with accreditation in sound, voice and music healing from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California. During my time at CIIS I also deepened my studies on Transpersonal Psychology inspired by Grof, Maslow and Sutich.

I created The Medicine of Your Voice method and teacher training inspired by the Indian Classical Vocal Style Dhrupad and my life experiences. My studies in Tantric Buddhism and Sufism and ongoing studies fuse into this method that constantly unfolds.

My vocation is to inspire people to discover body and voice as medicine and an instrument which serves us in music and life. I am passionate about witnessing people connecting to their inner sanctuary through sound, song and silence in order to navigate the ocean of life with an open heart. I love when people awaken into their unique way of expression, discover their own music and assist others in their discovery. Music is ever where. Within a  word, within silence, in your eyes, in the movements of your emotions.

The songs and prayers I have written and learned over the last 20 years carry the vibration of universal love which guides us all into states of consciousness where healing and transformation can take place. I am inspired by the ceremony of life, the forces of nature and the temporary stay on this planet. For me sound is sacred and a direct connection to the Divine that teaches us to stay grounded within our bodies, to be in touch with Mother Earth and to wish happiness for all beings seen and unseen.

I was born 1971 in New York and I am of Germanic descent. I grew up in Syria and Germany and completed the University of management and administration in Hamburg. I volunteered in an Advertising Agency and a Music Magazine and than I started working for a concert and booking agency https://www.electricchair.de/ in Hamburg, Germany. I was responsible for organizing events and tour booking and dived deeply into the world of music just from the other end.

In 1999 I was called to leave everything behind me as I felt something in my life was missing. I left Hamburg and moved to Ibiza, Spain where I had my first conscious awakening experiences. I met the musicians Carioca Freitas from Brazil and Amu Ahava from Austria. Both had major influences on my relationship to music and singing. I also got deeply involved into Ashtanga Yoga practice which lead me to Varanasi, India in 2003 where I found my love for the Indian Sitar and where I met my Guruji Pandit Shivnat Mishra. Him and his son Deobrat Mishra. Both taught me the basics of Indian Classical Music and culture. After I returned back to Europe I found my love for singing and the voice as a musical instrument. I also developed my own style in contemporary Indian Sitar playing.

In 2006 I was facing physical disorders and became sick. That was the beginning of my discovery of Sound Healing and the discovery of the practice of self healing. During that time I participated in my first Sound Healing Workshop on the Spanish Mainland facilitated by Nestor and Michelle Kornblum. I started to develop my own exercises and created a weekly devotional singing circle. Shortly after I received my first voice students. I also founded Samasound an Association for Healing Music and played once a week in a hospital and nursing home in Ibiza which later on I expanded into Cancer Support Communities in California. I got deeply immersed into the studies of Tibetan Buddhism, Sufism, Daoism, S.N. Goenka Vipassana Meditation and the practice of Tai Chi Chi Kung supporting the discovery of self and self healing.

I recorded my first 3 CDs in 2007 and than started traveling with various teachers, healing facilitators and musicians in the UK, Europe, Middle East, South Africa and Australia. I am still travelling back and forth to those places facilitating retreats, workshops, concerts, song healing circles and one on one session and lessons.

In 2013 I developed the Vocal method The Medicine of Your Voice and published my book The Medicine of Your Voice – conscious living through singing. I am offering in person and online one on one lessons and sessions, a teacher training, courses and self paced audio online studies.

By now I have recorded 7 CD’s and I am currently based on Hawaii weaving my musical expertise, ongoing studies and life experiences and offering my teachings to children and adults of all ages.
